The Israeli government is mounting an international «diplomatic offensive» demanding the world sanctions Iran’s missile development programme following a barrage of strikes over the weekend.
Iran launched hundreds of missiles and drones at Israeli targets on Saturday, but Israeli, American and British defence systems and warplanes intercepted the vast majority. Israel has vowed to retaliate, and is waging what its foreign minister called a «diplomatic offensive».
As Western governments rush to defuse tensions between the two countries and avert further conflict, new polling from the University of Tel Aviv and Hebrew University of Israel shows that Israelis are split on whether and how their government should respond to Iran’s attacks.
According to the survey, 52% believe Israel should avoid retaliating and try to end the current round of the conflict, while 48% argue that Israel should respond even if it means the conflict continues.
