Police in riot gear descended on the campus of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) after violent clashes between pro-Israel and pro-Palestine protesters.
The violence saw protesters kicking and shoving each other, with some using sticks to attack others.
The scuffles broke out near a tent encampment where pro-Palestinian demonstrators had erected barricades for protection.
«Horrific acts of violence occurred at the encampment tonight and we immediately called law enforcement for mutual aid support,» said senior UCLA official Mary Osako.
Over the last two weeks, police have arrested more than 1,000 across US campuses.
Officers used tear gas to disperse pro-Palestinian protesters at the University of South Florida on Tuesday. And in New York, police carrying zip ties and riot shields stormed Columbia University and arrested dozens who had occupied several areas of the Manhattan campus.
